Barrie and Lynette Mason were forced to leave their former home because of the Christchurch earthquakes. They bought on a section on the Waitikiri subdivision, which had strict requirements on what was allowed before building plans could be approved.
They sketched out some ideas of what they would like, took their plans to Benchmark Homes and left it to the company to design a home that would suit their needs and meet the subdivisions’ requirements.
Now that they are living in their home they couldn’t be happier. “I think we need to be proud that we’ve built a home that other people want to copy,” says Barrie. “Sometimes people want to know who designed it or sometimes just the colour we’ve used, but it does make us laugh on a Sunday when people are looking in, not realising we’re sitting inside and can see them.”
